River Valley Fund for Families (RVFF) and Community Foundation of Middlesex County, Inc.
(CFMC) The Community Foundation of Middlesex County’s mission is to improve the quality of life for people of the County now and in the future by developing endowments, making grants that have impact, and assisting donors in meeting their philanthropic objectives. The River Valley Fund for Families at the Community Foundation of Middlesex County focuses on the CFMC mission through our efforts in supporting the unmet needs of children and families in the Connecticut River Valley and Shoreline areas.
Our Purpose . . .
RVFF facilitates opportunities for donors to support their local community through grants for nonprofits that serve children and families in need. Distributions from the River Valley Fund for Families are used to support the health and well-being of families and children in the Connecticut River Valley and Shoreline areas. Distributions are made through CFMC’s grants process.

Summer Reading Kits
This spring we helped to put books in the hands of some of our community kids in need this summer.

It’s hard for many of us – adults or children – to imagine not having access to books, but for many families in our River Valley and Shoreline areas, finding the extra money to afford books or knowing what books to purchase is a struggle at best, and frequently impossible. Over the summer months, we want to keep children reading to maintain their reading skills.

With the guidance of staff at our local elementary schools – Clinton, Deep River, Essex, and Old Saybrook – we were able to provide books for 100 children, ages 6-11. Each child received a Summer Reading Kit – a backpack comprised of a book and a collection of related props, games or other activities designed to make reading interactive and enjoyable for both the child and the reader. These Literacy Kits help bring a book to life for a child and deepen the reading experience.

We plan to distribute reading kits once again in December this year. To learn more about how you can participate in instilling the love of reading, contact us here.
